June 2008

Dear Colleague,

In November, 2007, leading geriatric mental health researchers met at the Challenges in Recruitment, Retention, and Career Development in Geriatric Health Research conference in Potomac, Maryland, to discuss ways to advance their field by attracting and retaining talented new investigators. To help researchers utilize lessons learned at the conference, MedEdMentoring has created an interactive program that presents some of the most salient points from the 2-day meeting. Highlights from the meeting included in the program are tips on getting funded, including advice from leaders at the NIMH; an introduction to training programs for new investigators; the challenges of balancing work and family; and the NIH's Loan Repayment program. You can view the program here: http://mededmentoring.org/challenges/.

Sincerely,
Stephen J. Bartels, MD, MS; Martha L. Bruce, PhD, MPH; Maureen Halpain, MS; Barry D. Lebowitz, PhD;
Charles F. Reynolds III, MD; Gwenn Smith, PhD; Joel E. Streim, MD; Jürgen Unützer, MD, MPH, MA
