Dear Colleague,
Every day, 30 million presentations are made with PowerPoint software. PowerPoint is fast, easy to learn, and, when put online, can be readily accessible for anyone with Internet access. But of those 30 million presentations, how many have been truly memorable (for the right reasons)? Some common complaints about PowerPoint include slides crammed full of text, type that's too small, poor design and layout -- in other words, anything that keeps your audience from understanding and remembering the information you're trying to convey, which should be the main objective of any presentation.
If you think your PowerPoint skills could use some improvement, check out Slide Presentation Tune-ups, the newest entry in our Career Planner section. There you'll find out how to transform poorly designed slides into an effective presentation.
Sincerely,
Stephen J. Bartels, MD, MS; Martha L. Bruce, PhD, MPH; Maureen Halpain, MS; Barry D. Lebowitz, PhD; Charles F. Reynolds III, MD; Gwenn Smith, PhD; Joel E. Streim, MD; Jürgen Unützer, MD, MPH, MA
