Dear Colleague,
Is a diversity-driven mentoring program the key to academic career advancement for women and minorities? In MedEdMentoring.org's inaugural First Tuesday teleconference, held on May 2, 2006, Jovier Evans, PhD, of the National Institute of Mental Health, and Maureen Halpain, MS, of the University of California San Diego, identified ways in which institutions, mentors, and mentees can promote a diverse academic workforce. Participants listened to the live discussion, viewed and downloaded accompanying PowerPoint slides, and submitted questions ranging from professional organizations for women to the challenges of finding a mentor from the same ethnic background. A Web version will be available on MedEdMentoring.org shortly.
Topics planned for upcoming First Tuesdays include Research Careers Outside Academia and Exploring Sources of Private Grant Funding. We invite you to join us for these informative and timely discussions. For more information, or to be added to the First Tuesday e-mail list, sign up at http://www.mededmentoring.org.
Sincerely,
Stephen J. Bartels, MD, MS; Martha L. Bruce, PhD, MPH; Maureen Halpain, MS; Barry
