Have you ever considered a career working with the Veterans Health Administration? The VA offers a broad range of opportunities for those interested in later-life mental health research. To understand why, consider the following statistics: The number of veterans over age 65 increased from 54 percent to 65 percent between 1990 and 2000, and is projected to increase after 2010 with the aging population of Vietnam veterans. As in the general population, those over 80 years of age are the fastest-growing cohort of veterans.
In our November 6th First Tuesday teleconference, Dr. Helen Kales will discuss her career pathway from early to mid-level investigator within the Veterans Health Administration, as well as opportunities for MDs and PhDs interested in later-life mental health research in the VA system. Remember that participation in First Tuesdays is easy -- all you need is a phone and Internet access. For more information or to register, click here.
